據外媒報導，在歐洲議會中，一名帶有性別歧視與種族歧視的波蘭議員 Korwin-Mikke 表示女人就該比男人賺的少等不正當言論引起不滿，當場被西班牙工人社會黨的女議員 Iratxe García Perez 給嗆了回去。成功上演不好好說話就活該被打臉這一橋段。對於該波蘭議員在議會當中的不平等聲明，議會多國領袖已聯名起書要求調查並制裁該波蘭政治家。

在弗朗哥獨裁統治期間（1939 年 ~ 1975 年），西班牙女性的地位跌入谷底，那時候的女性是絕不可能當法官的，連出庭作證都不被允許，甚至外出旅遊也要通過丈夫的書面同意，基本上就是個附屬品。沒有獨立的經濟權，沒有學習工作的自主權，也沒有主宰自己婚姻的權利。
而現今，由於時代的發展，男女地位愈來愈平等，在西班牙女性地位更是一個華麗的轉身。在薩帕特羅執政期間，更是有力地推進了男女性別平等的進程，不僅推出了《反家庭暴力法》，並修改了《婚姻法》。而且在西班牙政府部門內還成立了「男女平等政策處」專門負責推進男女平等事務。據調查，目前在西班牙議員選舉中，當選的女議員就有將近過半的人數。由此看來，西班牙是一個對女性十分友好的國家。
